The studio behindThe WitcherandCyberpunkvideo game series is parting ways with a chunk of its staff. CD Projekt Red is laying off around 100 workers, which it estimates is roughly 9% of the entire team. As announced ina letter sharedon CD Projekt’s site from CEO Adam Kiciński, the layoffs will run up through Q1 2024. Its announced the layoffs now in the “spirit of transparency” and to give team members a chance to process....

If you’re like me, you have a sh*t ton of various game compilations on your shelves. I love old games. The classics, if you will. But there’s too many discs and carts, and it’s a big hassle to dig them all out. This one for this system, that one for that other system, some on your portable, and so on. They’re all mismatched, and you’ll probably never play all of the games on them, anyway....

Gearbox and 2K are starting theBorderlands 3hype train with a new video starring everyone’s favorite robot buddy. “Claptrap Presents” is a (likely one-off) series where the bumbling little trashcan will take viewers around the landscape of Pandora and introduce them to the various wildlife that will be assaulting them. Steve the Psycho is there, too, and he can’t help but get a little trigger happy. In the coming months leading up to its September 13 release date, 2K will be uploading new videos to its YouTube channel for the game....

It would fit well with PSVR G-Policeis due for another release, don’t you think? Back in 1997 the now defunct Psygnosis released the Sony-publishedG-Police, which tasked players with keeping the peace in a futuristic 2097 setting. And there that IP laid, dormant, outside of a PSN re-release in Europe in 2007. But thanks to a new European trademark filing this week, we might be seeing moreG-related activities. Given the timing right before E3 and the need for Sony to hype up PlayStationVR, it would make a perfect fit for that platform....

Also, Dark Souls II for Xbox 360 will come to Japan At a recent conference in Japan, Eiichi Nakajima, From Software’s Executive Director, announced sales figures forDark Souls. Across all platforms, the notoriously merciless game sold 2,367,000 copies. According to Nakajima, the original release accounted for 1,675,000 of the sales, and theArtorias of the Abyss Editionmade up the additional 692,000 units. Of theArtorias of the Abyss Editionssold, PC was by far the most popular version....

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Editon, which launched on PC this August, had with it bonus content not available on consoles calledArtorias of the Abysswhich contained new items, bosses, and areas among other things. As most who followDark Soulsprobably already know,Prepare to Die Editionwill now be making itsconsole debut on October 26. As for the people who haveDark Soulsand just want the extra goodies? Well, Nacmo has announced thatArtorias of the Abysswill be available as DLC on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on August 03, 2025 for $15, three days beforePrepare to Die Editionis out....

E3 is come and gone — but for some, the emotions still remain. Elation at new announcements and technology. Anticipation for upcoming games. Nostalgia for friends made, and breakfast burritos eaten. Ashley Davis and myself had too many scattered E3 thoughts to put into mere words, so we (and by “we”, I mean “she”) also decided to illustrate those moments most exciting and unusual from our trip. Another storefront? Unreal! In a turn of events that has become increasingly common, another game company has announced that it plans to directly compete with Steam bystarting its own storefront. Epic Games, developer of the wildly popularFortniteandUnreal Tournamentseries, is the next on the block to try and chop down the digital behemoth that is Steam. Its plan to dent the platform’s gilded armor? Appease developers. That’s the best plan I’ve seen in a while....
