Volgarr the Viking is headed to PS4 and Vita with Cross-Buy

Odin be praised! Volgarr the Vikingis a prime example of how old-school design never stopped being fun. There are a bunch of cheaply-placed pitfalls and the difficulty curve is a lot more front-loaded than I’d like, but besting the game’s obstacles is an immense joy. Even if I’ve never achieved the “best” ending, I still feel great for seeing the adventure through to one ending. Now, PS4 and Vita gamers will be able to revel in viking glory with the game this week....

Where the hell did Little Devil Inside come from and why is it AMAZING?

Twee El Topo I was immediately down with the art style, but it took me another minute and a half beforeLittle Devil Insidewormed its way into my brain as something I really, really want to play. A beautiful, surreal little thing that reminds me ofTearaway, but more free form like the latter’s third act. I even bothered to vote for it onSteam Greenlight. The fear here, of course, is how this all materializes into a game we will play and not a pretty movie we will watch....

‘Beatles-themed’ music videogame in the works, I prepare to go into debt

I know that I’ve already caught some flak for my taste in music, so I figure I might as well say ‘screw it’ and go for broke: in my (not-so-humble) opinion,The Beatles are the greatest band of all time. There, I said it. I’m a tremendous fan of the four Liverpudlians and what they did for music, and I love singing/playing Beatles tunes, so this news is incredibly exciting. According to theFinancial Times, representatives of the Beatles have been in talks with both Activision and MTV Games regarding a music videogame involving The Beatles....

A soundtrack with force: Kinect Star Wars

We now know thatKinect Star Warswas not the hardcore Kinect experience that it was originally touted to be. As a collection of Kinect mini-games best suited for younger players, I figured the game’s music would take a similarly lighthearted and playful approach, but the score composed by Gordy Haab and Kyle Newmaster is as hardcore and true to theStar Warsfranchise as anyone could have possibly hoped for. With that in mind, I wanted to highlight this ‘serious’ aspect of the game....

Atari bullying indie developer behind Tempest 2000

New ports of spiritual successor TxK ‘will now never see the light of day’ Atari thought it was “absolutely rubbish,” the Jaguar designer told developer Jeff Minter in 1993. The man felt compelled to pull Minter aside at the console’s launch party and let him know how little Atari thought of Minter’s latest creation,Tempest 2000, a remake of the1981 arcade classic. Minter still finished the game, which went on to enjoy a good bit of success, so much so that the developer has continued to tinker with the formula for over two decades....

Band of Bloggers: Resident Evil 4 and parasites

Promoted from our Community Blogs [Forthis month’s Bloggers Wanted prompt, Plaguemaniac3434 (aka Gamemaniac3434 during non-spooky seasons) writes about something pretty delightful and gross. With the recent announcement thatResident Evil 4is coming to Switch, this seems like the perfect time to reflect on the campy, body horror of a true classic. – Kevin] I suffer from a fear of certain things. This is natural, of course. Phobias aren’t exactly an uncommon human experience, and I imagine we all have at least one thing that terrifies us or makes our skin crawl....

Best Psychological Horror Games

Over the course of the past two decades, gaming has evolved and so has our need for tales of horror. Just seeing Jill Valentine getting turned into a sandwich and devoured by a bunch of zombies doesn’t cut it anymore. This prompted developers to ditch more obvious horror and instead look for deeper and more personal fears. The change allowed them to unlock never-before-seen nightmares that power the most powerful nightmares you can experience in and out of video games....
