It’s time again for financial reports, andNintendo’s is particularly interesting, as it reveals that its first-party IPs are doing exceedingly well, includingTears of the Kingdom. In August, it was revealed thatThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhad sold 18 million copies. With the latest financial report, Nintendo claims thatTears of the Kingdomhas sold over a million more copies, bringing up the total to 19.5 million. Other first-party franchises have been also thriving, includingPikmin 4which is somewhat of a surprise....

Tell Me Why Dontnod Entertainment, the studio behind titles such asLife is Strange, Vampyr,andTwin Mirror,has announced that it has sold a minority stake to Chinese conglomerate Tencent. The French developer agreed to the Tencent investment as part of its ongoing efforts to becoming financially secure enough to self-publish its future releases. Tencent’s stake equates to something in the region of €30 EUR (roughly $36 million USD) toward Dontnod’s capital. In return, Tencent receives a chair on the studio’s board of directors....

“The Memory Card” is a seasonal feature that dissects and honors some of the most artistic, innovative, and memorable videogame moments of all time. For years, role-playing games have introduced numerous, colorful casts of playable characters that ban together to stop the world from some unforeseen, horribly evil force. And, sadly, these casts are usually made up of some very interchangeable heroes. Giant sword? Check. Mysterious past? Check. Crazy haircut? Check....

Every time I talk about the Japanese PlayStation Network it seems that I’m bitching about how much better their selection is than ours. This time is no exception. Sony has announced that there are now over 600 classic titles on the JP PSN, in what they call the Game Archives. Nintendo Switch remake doubles Wii launch sales Nintendo’s epic remakeXenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Editionhas had a very successful launch, debuting at number one in the UK Charts. The former Wii title managed to take the throne from fellow Nintendo releaseAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, which slips to number two. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the launch sales ofXC: Definitive Editionare slightly below those of 2017’sXenoblade Chronicles 2, but are double that of the original 2011 edition ofXenoblade Chronicles, suggesting that the sequel helped new fans discover the colourful and adventurous RPG franchise....

There’s a slick-looking animated short calledAssassin’s Creed Embersset to launch alongside the upcomingAssassin’s Creed Revelations. Ubisoft says the film “expands on the final chapter of the life of master assassin Ezio Auditore.” (It does not, as you might suspect,involve online dating.) The publisher announced the film today, saying it would be available as part of GameStop’sAssassin’s Creed RevelationsSignature Edition.
