Fortnite’sChapter 5, Season 3 map introduced multiple Wasteland Beacons that allow you to start challenges. Having these challenges active gives you bonus experience whenever you perform a feat, but it makes it much harder for you to stay alive and win your matches. If you want to finish your weekly quests, though, you’ll have to be the last person standing and win a Victory Royale while having a Wastelander Challenge active.

How to start a Wastelander Challenge in Fortnite

Starting a Wastelander Challenge inFortniterequires traveling to a Wasteland Beacon, interacting with it, and activating its challenge. There are four Wasteland Beacons in the following locations:

The challenges you’ll face include taking damage while touching the ground, standing still, or obtaining ground items, alongside other challenges like not regaining shields or being unable to reload your guns. Generally speaking, they make the game much harder, but the rewards you gain and the weekly challenges you can complete are worth it.

Tips for winning a Victory Royale in Fortnite

Getting a Victory Royale inFortnitemeans you won the match and were the last player standing. Regardless of how many eliminations you get, you’ll win the game if you eliminate the last player, with bonus rewards available with Wastelander challenges active.

In short, your goal is to defeat as many players as possible while staying alive with the Wastelander challenge restriction active. Oftentimes, this means playing much more passively as you focus on your health, shields, and weapon ammo, depending on the active challenge.

Your active Wastelander challenge will also determine your strategy. For example, if your current challenge is that you’re able to’t reload your guns, your focus is to search the map for more weapons and constantly swap them out as needed. Similarly, if you can’t reload your shields, you won’t have to worry about carrying any shield potions; instead, have some healing items on hand, as you’ll likely need these throughout the match.

All in all, you’ll have to combine survivability with combat skills, as a large part of a Victory Royale is managing to get that last kill against someone who likely has very powerful gear and, in most cases, no Wastelander challenge restrictions.
