There’s some great news for turn-based RPG lovers (myself included) as a new single-playerDnDadventure is officially in development.

Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced that it has reached a publishing agreement with Giant Skull for publishing a brand new single-player adventure. Giant Skull is a new development studio created by veterans from Respawn Entertainment, responsible for a stack of great games.

Dungeons & Dragons

As you might have guessed, the game will have an immersive story and is set in theDungeons and Dragonsuniverse. Despite the lack of any concrete news beyond the announcement, there are definitely some valid reasons to be excited.

A new DnD game couldn’t have arrived at a better time

So far, we don’t have a timeline or potential launch date just yet, and this is one of manyDnDprojects that WotC has licensed to various partners. All we know is that the project will be available on both PC and consoles, so you may choose the platform you want.

Incidentally, WotC has chosen an ally of pedigree in the form of Giant Skull games. The studio is led by Stig Asmussen, who has worked on successful projects like the God of War series and Star Wars Jedi, among others. Here’s what he had to say on the occasion.

“Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity. Our goal is to craft a rich new DUNGEONS & DRAGONS universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”

I am certainly happy that the focus of the project is on story-building and enjoying a solo experience. The last part might feel counterintuitive to some (especially if you’re an old-schoolDnDlover), but we have had success stories like Baldur’s Gate 3 in the past (yes, it has co-op, but playing solo was no less fun).

Here’s what WotC has had to say on the occasion.

“Stig and the team at Giant Skull are exactly the type of exceptionally talented creators we want to work with, and I’m so happy to be reuniting with him on this new project… Worldbuilding and storytelling is in our DNA, and this collaboration reflects our evolution and commitment to our Playing to Win Strategy, building a stronger presence in digital play.”

For the moment, let’s all wait patiently to find out what Asmussen and the team cook for all of usDnDlovers.
