When it comes to live-service community events,Helldivers 2is proving to be quite the behemoth. Its maniacal game-master, the enigmatic “Joel,” has doled out one surprise after another, and this one is proving quite diabolical. What if Arrowhead Game Studios said, “Here are two new stratagems,” but also said, “pick one?”
Today’s Major Order has players liberating one of two planets, either Choohe or Pente, in the Automaton region of the map. Depending one which one is liberated first, we’ll all be unlocking one of two new stratagems, either the MD-17 Anti-Tank Minesorthe RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher.
Only the stratagem on the first liberated planet can be saved. And the citizens, too. The citizens are the most important part. Choose democratically, Helldivers.
This is the first time a new stratagem has been left on the table by the developers. There was one other instance of unlocking a stratagem via liberation, way back when the Exosuits launched, but this is a little different. This means we’re leaving one in the barrel. We’llprobablyget it later, but giving the community their choice of content is pretty clever.
Between you and me: we’re going to pick the rocket launcher, right? I mean, it’s a launcher. I get to shoot it at stuff. Mines are nice and all, and I’m sure they’d be useful against Hulks and things, but an explosion caused by my own hands seems a little more satisfying than one happening off someplace else.
