It’s like a Studio Ghibli take on kaiju movies

Of the three games announced as part of Level-5’sGuild02lineup,Kaiju ga Deru Kinyoubi(“Monsters Come Out on Friday) sounded the most fascinating. A game in which you play as a boy in a small town turned upside-down by a sudden giant monster invasion — that premise alone should make you feel all gooey inside. Unfortunately, it didn’t appear on thelistofGuild02games receiving localization. Why the snub?

Our European bruddah suckling another cow’s udder,Daan Koopman, posted a huge batch of clips fromMonsters Come Out on Friday, which arrived in the Japanese eShop just last week. After watching all of them, I can totally understand why Level-5 would skip such a game for a Western release. Not that I wouldn’t still want to play it, but I can see the logic.

Monsters Come Out on Fridayseems more like a lifestyle experience than a true game. You walk around talking to townspeople, going to school, and hanging out with friends. The titular monsters don’t make an appearance until a good while later, and then you are only a more or less a spectator (though you do have some kind of connection). The most you ever actually do is play a collectible card game from time to time.

I still would like Level-5 to take a chance. The game looks so darn charming. See for yourself in the video dump below.
