Moving in the right direction
In the instance of ESPN, it appears as if eSports coverage isn’t a short-term experiment that it’s dropping. The self-proclaimed Worldwide Leader in Sports is hiring for a dedicated eSports editor. The role looks to be full-time, judging by the breadth of responsibilities.
The listing says that applicants should be proficient in their knowledge ofLeague of Legends,Call of Duty,DotA 2,StarCraft 2,Hearthstone,Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and more. Interestingly enough, ESPN mentions that it’s important for editors to know and understand the fantasy and gambling scenes surrounding these titles.

Apart from those specifics, this is a normal-looking editor description — assign stories, manage writers and freelancers, keep track of the budget, etc. If that sounds like stuff you can do, give it a shot. Maybe you’ll end up sitting in Colin Cowherd’s office.
