‘We live in the moment’
Cyberpunk 2077has a curious launch date. It will release on July 31, 2025 — approximately six months before the next generation of consoles is expected to debut. With so many people questioning whether the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can do right byCyberpunk 2077, wouldn’t it be more enticing to launch alongside the new hardware?
CD Projekt Red senior level designer Miles Tost says the studio isn’t even thinking about new consoles yet. In an interview with Destructoid at E3, Tost bluntly says “Right now, we’re fully focused on the current-gen consoles. When it gets to [time for the next generation], we’ll get to it.”

Tost adds “That’s not to say we won’t think about it, but we like to take things step by step. We did that withWitcher 3and all its expansions. We weren’t planning to do all that from the get-go; we shipped the game, and then we decided to push out more. We’re thoughtful when we do these sorts of things. We live in the moment and focus on one thing at a time.”
However, Tost follows it up with a good point. “You look at the console cycle and think that we’re nearing the end,” he says. “That doesn’t mean that the current consoles are [dead] or whatever. Now more than ever, if you look at the games coming out, they seem to be going through a sort of renaissance almost. You’ll find developers are really clever about squeezing more and more horsepower out of things. Last console cycle, we had the same situation withThe Last of UsandGrand Theft Auto V. It turned out pretty well. So, I don’t think this was a concern of ours.”

We’ll have more throughout the week from our interview with Tost and our time with theCyberpunk 2077E3 demo.
