Yesterday we talked about howBayonetta‘s lead character wasdesigned by a woman, but it’s interesting to note that, even though Platinum Games says only a woman could have done it, she was definitely designed to appeal to men, or more specifically, aman. That man isDevil May Crycreator andBayonettadirector Hideki Kamiya, for whom Bayonetta is the “ideal woman.”

“The director of the game Hideki Kamiya always creates hero characters that are a little different from the traditional hero, be itViewtiful Joeor Dante fromDevil May Cry,” explains producer Yusuke Hashimoto. “He felt that he’d made so many male hero characters he really wanted to break the mold and have a female character instead, and many of the characteristics of Bayonetta are attributed to her being what he thinks would be his ideal woman.

“He always seems to produce great characters who have strong personalities and traits that you simply can’t help but like … Typical heroes work fine but they always have to have some characteristic that we find attractive, and that’s the key to creating a successful hero. Producing a fascinating character is not an easy job. It’s a challenge that a games developer has to overcome if they want to give birth to a new hero.”

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one for whom Bayonetta is the perfect female. I don’t care what the rest of you say, the beehive-haired, giraffe-legged, impossibly-hipped librarian dominatrix from Hell look has always been one of my favorites, so you’re able to shut up, thanks!
